MES Members Support Local Youth in Search of Jobs
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” –Winston Churchill
On Tuesday, April 29th Metro Event Specialist (MES) launched its first #MEScares initiative, which benefitted underprivileged youth in SE DC. MES members generously donated the following items to The House DC, an urban ministry 10 minutes from the nation’s capital:
- 8 gently used smart phones
- 2 dress shirts
- 4 suits
- 2 pairs of fancy heels
- beauty supplies
- 2 watches
- 11 fashionable ties
The House strives to transform and empower the lives of inner city youth by giving them hope, a productive future and changed community. With these in-kind donations, our youth can confidently walk into an interview looking and feeling professional. The majority of The House youth cannot afford a phone or dress clothes. They live in extreme poverty and come from disadvantaged homes. We appreciate partners like MES who seeks opportunities to impact its city and help combat social injustices.
Greg, was the first youth to receive one of the iPhones that were donated to The House.
“Thank you ain’t the words for my expression of my gratitude for this phone. After getting my phone stolen from me, I can finally communicate back with my friends, family and House staff when in need. I feel safer now, and I can reach out to someone when in trouble.”
On behalf of the House team, we want to thank everyone who came out to MES Mixer and remembered those who are often overlooked and forgotten in the city of Washington DC.
Editors Note: #MESCares is an ongoing partnership between The Meant 2 Live Foundation and Metro Event Specialists. Throughout the year, we’ll be focusing our efforts on supporting The House DC! To learn more about and support The House DC, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/thehousedc
